Given the increasing precautions around COVID-19, or the Coronavirus, many of the folks in our congregations will be self-isolating to reduce their risk, especially those who are elderly or with compromised immune systems.
In response, congregations might consider implementing a buddy system or phone call ministry to provide social support, resources, and spiritual connection to those who are isolating to reduce their risk of contracting COVID-19.
We developed a template job description and phone call guideline that could be used by congregations. Since this would be a new program reaching vulnerable people, we set the requirements and qualifications high and would recommend first recruiting volunteers from the groups who already do pastoral care.
