Faith community nurses volunteering at an Ask A Nurse event

Ask A Nurse Program Serving East Whatcom County

With the support of a generous grant from Aging Well Whatcom and Chuckanut Health Foundation, Health Ministries Network (HMN) has established a regular preventive health education, connection, and presence at the East Whatcom Regional Resource Center (EWRRC) from September 2021-September 2022.

Our Faith Community Nurses and Health Ministers, work alongside the Foothills Community Food Bank to support older adults and families residing in and around Mt. Baker School District #507 on the second and fourth Tuesdays of every month.

Health Ministries Network volunteers provide blood pressure checks health counsel, referral and telehealth, as well as limited screening.

On the fourth Tuesday of the month, the “Ask a Nurse” program is augmented by community partners, to include the Whatcom Family YMCA, Mt. Baker Foundation, NAMI of Whatcom County, and Dementia Support Northwest.

Health Ministries Network also contributes to the East Whatcom Health Reporter by providing news articles and links to resources that correspond to the East Whatcom Health Services Fair themes and upcoming “Ask a Nurse” programing.

Throughout the program, HMN encourages community members to learn more about and participate in our annual Foundations Course, a faith community nurse(FCN)/health minister (HM) volunteer training available to those who wish to serve from within their faith community or geographic area.
