LIVESTRONG at the YMCA

This FREE physical activity and well-being program helps adult cancer survivors achieve their holistic health goals.

RECLAIM YOUR ENERGY, RECLAIM YOUR POWER

By focusing on the whole person and not the disease, LIVESTRONG helps people move beyond cancer in spirit, mind, and body.

Offered for FREE at our Bellingham and Lynden centers, this 12-week program (two 90-minute sessions each week) helps cancer survivors build muscle mass and strength; increases flexibility and endurance; improves confidence and self-esteem; and fosters a community of support. Participants work with Y staff trained in supportive cancer care to safely achieve goals, and they will develop their own fitness plan, so they can continue to practice a healthy lifestyle, not only as part of their recovery, but as a way of life.

“When I came to LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, it was with awareness that I could no longer do my highly active job. I felt my treatment-damaged muscles were ruined forever. But at the end of the 12 weeks, I was able to do a few hours a week. After a second 12 weeks, I was strong enough to accept as much work as I wanted to.” –Whatcom Family Y LIVESTRONG participant

Rock Steady Boxing for Parkinson's

The mission of Rock Steady Boxing is to empower people with Parkinson’s disease to fight back.

FIGHT BACK AGAINST PARKINSON'S

We are learning every day that there are ways in which people with Parkinson’s disease can enhance their daily quality of life and even build impressive power, strength, flexibility and speed! By exercising with coaches who know the ropes, you can fight your way out of the corner and start to feel and function better.

Boxing works by moving your body in all planes of motion while continuously changing the routine as you progress through the workout. These classes have proven that anyone, at any level of Parkinson’s, can actually lessen their symptoms and lead a healthier/happier life.
